“DMZ, 70년의 경계를 넘어 미래로”라는 이번 대회 슬로건처럼 자신의 경계를 한 단계 넘어 미래로 도약하는 대회가 되시길 바라며, 더 밝고 조화로운 세상을 향해 나아가기 위한 장벽을 허무는 페달을 힘껏 밟아주시길 바랍니다.

반갑습니다. 인천시장 유정복입니다.

올해로 여섯 번째를 맞이한 “Tour de DMZ 2023 국제자전거대회”에 참가한 국내·외 선수단과 모든 참가자 여러분, 300만 인천시민과 함께 진심으로 환영합니다.

DMZ 국제자전거대회는 길지 않은 역사에도 관계자 여러분들의 열정과 내실 있는 운영으로 이제는 대표 국민축제로 자리매김하고 있습니다. 행사를 함께 준비해주신 행정안전부, 경기도, 강원도, 대한자전거연맹을 비롯한 관계자 여러분께 감사 말씀드립니다.

DMZ 국제자전거대회는 단순히 경주만 하는 것이 아닙니다. 분단의 아픔과 평화의 염원이 공존하는 한반도 심장부 비무장지대와 접경지역을 자전거로 달리며, 단절과 대립의 상징이었던 DMZ를 연결과 화합의 상징으로 바꾸는 의미가 있습니다.

이렇듯 국경, 정치, 이념을 초월해 우리 모두에게 평화와 공존을 말하는 공통의 언어가 바로 스포츠이자 오늘의 국제자전거대회입니다. 533km 대장정을 달리는 동안 스포츠의 힘으로 어떠한 장벽도 극복할 수 있다는 또 하나의 언어를 보여줄 것입니다.

“DMZ, 70년의 경계를 넘어 미래로”라는 이번 대회 슬로건처럼 자신의 경계를 한 단계 넘어 미래로 도약하는 대회가 되시길 바라며, 더 밝고 조화로운 세상을 향해 나아가기 위한 장벽을 허무는 페달을 힘껏 밟아주시길 바랍니다.

아울러, 인천시는 올해 9월 인천상륙작전 가치를 재조명하고, 한반도 평화와 안보를 결집하는 ‘9.15. 인천상륙작전 기념행사’를 개최할 예정입니다. 여러분의 많은 관심 부탁드립니다.

다시 한번 Tour de DMZ 2023 국제자전거대회 개최를 축하드리며, ‘자전거 타는 즐거움과 비교할 수 있는 것은 아무것도 없다’라는 말처럼 오늘 대회가 여러분에게 더없이 값진 시간이 되길 기대합니다. 부상 없는 안전한 주행 하시기를 바랍니다.

As this year’s slogan ‘DMZ, Beyond 70-year Barriers, Riding of Tomorrow’ indicates, I hope this event will present an opportunity for you to jump over your own boundary and leap into a new future, and I ask you to pedal even faster to break down the barriers to move forward toward a more bright and harmonized world.

Greetings! This is Yoo Jeong-Bok, Mayor of Incheon Metropolitan City.

I would like to extend my warmest welcome to all athletes and officials from home and abroad who are participating in the 6th Tour de DMZ 2023 International Road Cycling Tour, together with three million citizens of Incheon.

Despite its relatively short history, the Tour de DMZ has been established as one of the renowned festivals enjoyed by all people, thanks to the passion and stable organization of everyone involved. I deeply thank the officials from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, Gyeonggi-do Province, Gangwon State, and Korea Cycling Federation for their wonderful preparations.

Tour de DMZ is not simply about racing. It signifies shifting the DMZ, the symbol of disconnection and confrontation, into the symbol of connection and harmony, while cycling through the demilitarized zone at the heart of the Korean Peninsula and the border areas steeped in both pains of division and aspirations for peace.

Like this, sport as well as today’s event serves as a universal language speaking peace and co-existence for all, transcending borders, politics and ideology. Cycling a 533km-long course, you will demonstrate another language teaching us that we can ride out any barrier with the power of sport.

As this year’s slogan ‘DMZ, Beyond 70-year Barriers, Riding of Tomorrow’ indicates, I hope this event will present an opportunity for you to jump over your own boundary and leap into a new future, and I ask you to pedal even faster to break down the barriers to move forward toward a more bright and harmonized world.

In addition, the city of Incheon will host ‘September 15 Incheon Landing Operation Commemoration Event’ this September to shed new light on the value of the historic operation and promote solidarity toward peace and security on the Korean Peninsula. I kindly ask for your interest in this occasion.

Once again, I sincerely congratulate you on the ‘Tour de DMZ 2023’ and I hope this event will be all the more enjoyable and valuable time for you as a famous quote says, “Nothing compares to the simple pleasure of a bike ride”.
